In the past, swimsuits were made up of cotton but the latest trend is polyester because it is water resistant. The basic design of the swimwear has not changed till date but the design patters have changed. Swimsuits made up of polyester fabric have net lining inside it.

Today swimsuits are available in various styles like trunks, board shorts briefs and thongs. Based on the purpose, style of swimsuit should be chosen. Men who swim everyday can buy trunks or board shorts as they are functional and comfortable. Briefs can also be worn everyday, but it is not that popular as previous style. For racing or diving purpose briefs can be worn. Racing briefs are made up of durable materials. They are far more resistant to the wearing effects of chlorine.

Board shorts were mainly developed for aquatic sports, but now it is worn as a swimwear. The name board shorts came from aquatic sports like surfing. Many people in Australia call this short as boardies and baggies in South Africa. This swimwear can be worn for various water sports because it is made up of polyester material which is water resistant. Board shorts are generally longer and have lace on the waistline.

Traditional men prefer swim trunks and board shorts. Both swim trunks and board shorts are available in mid-thigh to mid-calf length. They come in various materials. Since Swim trunks are available in various patterns and designs men can do show off among girls.

By wearing brief swimwear men can boost their male physique. This type of swimsuit is usually form fitted leaving major portion of the leg and thigh exposed.
